Parental engagement is key! Cole Elementary is going the extra mile to get parents involved.
Cole Elementary School has opened its computer lab doors to assist parents of the Cane Ridge and Overton clusters with learning computer skills. Parents have begun attending a 16-session workshop on how to use and work the computer. Specifically, they are learning Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel and how to navigate the internet.
John Schellhase, volunteer trainer with the Peace Corps, teaches the computer curriculum. He, along with a translator, provides lessons during the computer course and instruction to the parents about the ins and outs of the computer. The computer workshop began as a need for parents to get more involved with children.
