Career Academies are "schools-within-schools" organized around career themes. They integrate academic, career, and technical instruction to prepare students for postsecondary education and employment. Teachers and students integrate academic and occupation-related classes as a way to enhance real-world relevance and maintain high academic standards. Partnerships with local employers provide mentors, internships, and program planning guidance. Career academies place mephasis on building relationships between students and adults, both teachers and work-site supervisors. Constructive relationships are fostered by grouping students together each year to take core courses with the same group of teachers, thus increasing the support students receive.
Pearl-Cohn currently has two career academies in place. Within these academies are pathways (specializations). Below are the academies, their pathways, and the courses required to complete each program.
The academies, courses & pathways contained in these pages represent the choices available for students during the 2009-10 school year.
